One soldier of the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) was killed in eastern Afghanistan on Sunday, an ISAF statement said.

The soldier was killed by small-arms fire, it said.

The statement did not say which province the incident occurred and the soldier’s nationality.

About 37,000 ISAF soldiers are being deployed in Afghanistan to fight militants and keep security.

Due to rising Taliban violence, over 4,600 persons, most of whom were Taliban militants, have been killed in Afghanistan so far this year.
